Before it was time to kick-off the 2013 Oakley Pro Bali, Oakley surfers Bruce Irons, Jordy Smith, Sebastian Zietz and Gabriel Medina spent time with sixty local Balinese school children teaching them about the importance of coral reefs. Teaming up with Reef Check Foundation, the students learned the significance of reef conservation and the fragile state of the ocean ecosystems. The students also enjoyed a friendly art competition judged by the Oakley surf team and an interactive game to learn how to sort organic and non-organic waste.

Following the education session, everyone headed out to Keramas for a community beach clean up. More than one hundred passionate locals spent the afternoon picking up trash that comes down the Keramas river mouth and dumps into the Indian ocean.
