Going to College with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Destination College program was designed to help mentors introduce, excite and educate their Littles about opportunities to go to college, and ultimately increase the number of Littles who pursue higher education.

Oakley recently hosted and sponsored Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County’s Destination College Career Day at its headquarters on Saturday, September 8. Littles and their Bigs heard speakers in different fields talk about their college experiences and career choices.

Matches toured the building, spent time with staff, enjoyed lunch by TK Burgers and shopped in the employee store. Each Little received an Oakley gift bag with school supplies, as well as Oakley products, and a lucky few took home Oakley skateboards.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I signed up to volunteer at the event and was blown away by the impact Big Brothers Big Sisters has on the community,” said Oakley Customer Service Rep, David Ramirez. “I know this was life changing for both the Bigs and Littles, and it had an in impact on me too.”

As a result of the Career Day, 100% of the Littles who participated signed College Pledges and set amazing goals to put themselves on a college trajectory. This was a unique opportunity to inspire the children in the BBBS program to pursue a higher education.

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally-supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better. To learn more about Big Brothers Big Sisters visit www.bbbs.org.
