Pajon, Oakley Women Sweep Podium at UCI BMX World Cup in Papendal

Mariana Pajon can already claim the title of Olympic Champion and World Champion, so what’s another UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Title on the old resume? The 21-year-old Columbian BMX superstar took down some of the world’s best to win the World Cup #3 stop in Papendal, Netherlands this past weekend. Oakley ladies Arielle Martin and Lauren Reynolds rounded out the podium in Europe.

For Pajon, the win in at the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Papendal acted as the final puzzle in an unlikely career Grand Slam. Pajon had never won a World Cup race up to this point and added the third piece to her triple crown puzzle, adding to her Olympic Gold Medal from the 2012 London Olympics and her previous World Championship.

“I never won a Supercross World Cup” Pajon said. “This one is for my father in Columbia. I had very good energy today on father’s day. What is my secret? I think I really enjoy what I am doing. This post-Olympic year is a transition year for me. I am just having fun. And this track is all about jumping and I love jumping. I was going fast and smooth because of that.”

On the men’s side, Oakley rider Jelle Van Gorkom predicted he’d win and delivered at the World Cup in his home country, outlasting a very strong qualifier, American Connor Fields, who crashed in the quarterfinals.

“Great to be back on top after 2012,” Van Gorkom said. “I had to prove that I could really win this race. I also mentioned this before. I am not arrogant but convinced that I belong on the podium in this form. I am really proud of myself and I am looking forward to the World Championships in New Zealand. ”
