Oakley Brings the Blizzard to the New Zealand Open Halfpipe Contest, Seaton and Gunning Grab Titles

The snow was raging at Cardrona Alpine Resort in New Zealand this past weekend. But the real Blizzard came from Oakley’s killer Ski Team as it swept the Halfpipe titles at the Volkl NZ Freeski Open on Saturday.

The Big O’s Taylor Seaton emerged victorious on the Men’s side with his alley-oop 900 flattening the field, while teammate Byron Wells grabbed the second place spot with a little aerial mayhem of his own. Women’s Team shredder Megan Gunning was the icing on the O Cake, as she went home with the Women’s Halfpipe title after scoring a huge 94.25 to pull away from the competition.

“Taylor and Byron showed the most amplitude of all the riders,” said Head Judge Rafael Regazzoni, praising the Oakley shredders for their standout performances. “In the end, the difference for Taylor was that he was able to combine more tricks in his run and was slightly better technically.”

But his praise was just as enormous for Megan’s amazing runs – especially in such a harsh environment.

“Megan threw down a huge cork 1080, a trick that not many women can pull off,” said Regazzoni. “She was impressive. It was a fantastic halfpipe but the conditions made it difficult for everyone.”
