Thriller: O Triathlete Barbara Riveros Diaz Claims First-Ever Elite ITU World Title in Lausanne, Passes Four Triathletes in Last 400 Meters
With one kilometer left, the race was all but done. And Barbara Riveros Diaz sat in fourth. But Oakley’s Chilean speedster stunned the Triathlon world with an inspiring charge with 500 meters remaining, powering past previous leader Emma Jackson, Andrea Hewitt and Helen Jenkins all the way to a thrilling finish for her first-ever Elite ITU World Title at the Dextro Energy Triathlon Series round in Lausanne Crossing the line in 58 minutes, 35 seconds, Barbara refused to let up in the final stretch, fighting off attacks by Jackson. When the run dropped into action, Jenkins set the pace for the leading group, with Hewitt, Jackson, Barbara and Ashleigh Gentle rounding out the leaders pack.
There is one thing that rings true for all snow athletes is their drive for just wanting to get out on the hill. And this week was a true test of their spirits and Oakley’s women’s snow team was doing their best to work with the weather. After 4 days of waiting in their apartment in Wanaka New zealand it was time to get out and make the best of the weather.
Mark Paul Gosselaar, is definitely stoked on Oakley. The long-time Hollywood star, his kids and a collection of some of Tinsel Town’s brightest young stars converged in Dana Point, Calif. to be welcomed into the O family – surf style. All for Oakley’s famous ‘Learn to Ride’ program, which merges the entertainment and sports industries in efforts to spread the stoke on different sports. Hitting Doheny Beach on July 22, Gosselaar (TNT’s Franklin and Bash), Amber Lancaster (MTV’s Hard Times of RJ Berger), Brian Geraghty (Hurtlocker, The Chameleon), Kate Voegele (One Tree Hill) and many more joined to get down, get up on their boards and learn from Oakley’s resident Women’s World No. 2 Pro standout Sage Erickson, as well as Oakley Surf Managers Ronny Nelson and Luke Walsh.
