Oakley Japan Hosts Yokohama Wake Lab
Oakley Japan and Redbull Japan jointly hosted the country’s first ever wakeboard show. Some 40,000 party goers crowded Yokohama port area to celebrate its 150th anniversary and Oakley was there to make a Square O impact.
The main activities at Yokohama Wake Lab 2009 were exhibition shows by 6 riders including Oakley riders Shota Tezuka and Yuki Taguchi, promoting Push Process, on-site sales and media.
In the wakeboard area a jump kicker was set up between a 49ft pool a 32ft pool. Each rider was pulled up with a winch to make one jump. If the landing failed, the riders risked bring crushed into the concrete ground. The riders, unaffected by the fear factor, put out great performance and wowed 5,000 audience with their crazy tricks.
Wearing his favorite Sideways Light Brown Tortoise / Bronze Polarized, Shota Tezuka said, “I’m stoked so many audience turned up despite the rain. We should definitely do it again and show people just how exciting wakeboarding really is.”
ESPN Japan plans to broadcast the show later in the year. Other media coverage includes TV stations – NHK & Fuji Television, Magazines – Surf First Magazine & Wakeboard Magazine, Newspapers – Kanagawa Newspaper & Chunichi Newspaper.
