Aaron Rathy

Our Wake team had yet another epic season in 2012. There were numerous contest victories, dozens of magazine covers, nationally televised TV features, Readers Poll Awards and award-winning new tricks landed throughout the year.

The Oakley team is young, diverse, talented, and leading the sport of wakeboarding into a new generation of performance. Having the top athletes across every discipline of the sport, the athletes finished with great results throughout the season in women’s, men’s and wakeskating. On top of the podium finishes and MTV fame, the team also had many opportunities to give back and help grow the sport. Through the Square O Session Tour, the team traveled around the country spending time with young groms, shop employees, and new fans giving them an on-water experience and lessons from the best in the sport.

On an individual basis, Harley Clifford, Oakley’s youngest star was one of the standouts of the season. Once again, he was crowned champion of the Pro Wakeboard Tour and King of Wake. Clifford dominated all season long, winning nearly every award possible, from the Transworld Wake Awards to the Readers Choice Awards across various magazines.

On the women’s side of the wake team, Nicola Butler and Amber Wing battled back and forth throughout the year regularly finishing atop the standings in any and every contest they entered.

Aaron Rathy also had an amazing year and continues to be a leader in the program. Mentoring young phenom’s such as Oakley Japan team rider Shota Tezuka and other upcoming groms.

Danny Hampson and George Daniels, both Oakley wakeskaters, shared similar results with numerous contest wins and tons of editorial coverage.

All over the world in 2012 the Oakley team is growing and continuing to push the sport, from Nick Davies in the UK dominating the cable scene all the way to Canada where Oliver Derome continues to bring some of the freshest style to the sport.

Heading into 2013, the Oakley wake crew has more big plans in hopes of yet another successful season on both an individual and program-wide basis. Congratulations to all the athletes and everyone involved with Oakley wake, but most importantly, thank you to all the fans who have kept our team motivated in 2012.
