Oakley Wake Team Dominates in 08

It was an exceptional year for the Oakley Team in 2008, after completing 1242 Productions first wakeboard team movie, Push Process. The riders spent the year traveling, freeriding and promoting the film around the world. Aaron Rathy said, " It was a great feeling to work hard for one year filming, and then have another year to show what we had accomplished. Going into a new season after filming, I think it pushed all of us to land new tricks and keep the progression going after the video."

Rathy did just that this past season, towards the end of the filming for the video Aaron hurt his knee trying a 1080 for his video section. Unfortunately he did not get one in time to make the final edit, but as soon as his knee healed Rathy went right back to the water and now has landed more 1080’s than anyone in the world. Aaron had a great season in competition as well, making several podium finishes at the Pro Tour event.

Also making a consistent finish on top at last years events were Amber Wing and Oakley’s newest addition to the team, Nicola Butler. Butler had a great year winning seven of the nine events, Wing, right at her footsteps finished a respectable 2nd place overall for the year. Amber’s shinning star moment of 2008 was being the first female to land a toe side 720 in competition. Keith Lyman also had a great year releasing his pro model wakeboard, having several more video parts, and freeriding around the world. If you ever get a chance to catch Lyman in your hometown for a clinic we strongly suggest you don’t pass up on the opportunity.

On the Wakeskate team, it was another solid Year, Hampson, Daniels and Nick Taylor all had strong finishes on the Toe Jam Tour. And at the 2008 Wakeboarding Magazine Wake Awards their hard work paid off. Hampson won the award for Video Section of the Year and Taylor for the Wakeskater of the Year Award. Tavernier, Florida local Danny Hampson was also was named 2008 Rider of the Year from Alliance Magazine.

It was a great year for the whole team, everyone worked hard and really showed how diverse our team is in every aspect from contest finishes, photo-shoots, video shoots, awards, and freeriding. The biggest accomplishment Oakley in 2008 was winning the Video of the Year award with Push Process. Everyone worked so hard on the film and we just wanted to say thanks one more time for those that made the film possible.

To cap off the 2008 season, the Oakley team took a trip down to Key West Florida, to shoot the new Spring 09 Apparel, Footwear and Eyewear Campaign. Check out the video recap of the Keys trip at www.oakley.com/wake
We are excited about the New Year and looking forward to having another dominating season in 2009.
