Riot in the Desert: Oakley Pro Wakeboarding Event to Rage in Dubai, Nov. 19
It’s about that time of year to get down in the desert…Oakley Wake style.
The Oakley Riot at the Sea Dubai Festival is dropping yet again at Nasimi Beach in Dubai on Nov. 19, set to step it up from the adrenaline-fueled, double-up wakeboarding contest that raged on the Arabian Peninsula last year.
The official line-up features familiar faces and new-comers alike, including Oakley’s young and rising ripper Harley Clifford, Shane Bonifay, Rusty Malinoski, JD Webb, Shawn Watson, Parks Bonifay, Bob Soven, Nick Davies, Andrew Adkison and Philip Soven – who’ll all throw down at the Atlantis Hotel on the Palm Jumeirah for a $22,000 cash prize and bragging rights.
Last year’s winner and Oakley team star Aaron Rathy won’t be hitting the water to defend his title due to injury, but he will be the chief judge to help decide his successor.
Shane Bonifay, runner-up in 2009, will be keen to outdo himself this year, while our own Aussie phenom Harley Clifford will look to continue rise to fame – building on his recent triumphs, like being named the top Male Wakeboarder at the Wakeworld Riders Choice Awards 2010.
“2010 has been a great year for me personally, and really looking forward to the Oakley Riot in Dubai this month,” said Harley, who’s only 16-years-old. “The guys going to the Oakley Riot are the best in the world, and being a double-up comp, anyone of these guys can pull off a winning run, so I’m just looking forward to staying relaxed, performing on the day and having fun.”
The event will kick off with an amateur contest in the morning, where groms and up and comers can showcase their skills – followed by the main event. But it isn’t gonna’ be all business in the desert. Immediately following the Riot, Nasimi Beach will host a rockin’ beach party from 6 p.m. until the wee morning hours.
Sounds like a bona fide International Oakley Rager on the water to us. Keep an eye out for future coverage!
