Oakley's Nicola Butler Wins 51st Masters Wakeboard Tournament
Oakley’s Nicola Butler won The 51st Masters Wakeboard Tournament at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia last weekend. This prestigious competition, formerly the Masters Water Ski Tournament, recently expanded to include the sport of wakeboarding. With the limited invite only list of competitors, the Masters is stated to be one of the most difficult contests.
The tough list of athletes played little effect on Butler who took the top spot at the event. She is now a two-time defending Masters Champion. Her finals run set her far above the rest of the Pro Women athletes.
“It was a really fun event, the water was calm, and the crowd was huge. Im so stoked to win The Masters two years in a row!” Said Butler. Also making a podium finish was fellow Oakley teammate Amber Wing who finished in third place.
In the Pro Men Division, Philip Soven earned his third Masters Title followed by Rusty Malinoski, and Soven’s younger brother Bob Soven in Third Place. Brandon Thomas, earned his first Masters Title in WakeSkate. This was the first time wakeskating has been in The Masters Tournament.
With more than $100,000 in prize money, the Masters tournament brought together the worlds best athletes and a huge crowd on beautiful Robin Lake in Callaway Gardens. Butler will be back in 2011 with hopes to defend her title.
