2009 marked the 50th anniversary of the US Masters Waterski and Wakeboard event held at the prestigious Callaway Gardens in Georgia.

Which is one of the hardest contests in the waterski scene to gain an invitation into. With select judging criteria to meet only those at the top of their game are considered, meaning for the athletes to come out with a victory, they are allowed no slip-ups.

This year had some of the worst weather imaginable for such an event with high winds and heavy rain adding an extra challenge to the contestants. As miserable as it was nobody was going to let the conditions get the better of him or her. For those lucky few the rain lightened up in patches letting the wind calm down, for the unfortunate the rain started back up just as they left the dock.

Oakley head to toe rider Amber Wing took 3rd in women’s wakeboard. Starting off a little shaking but pulling herself together getting a whirly down on the 3rd trick and backing it up with a smooth and solid toe side 540 in her usual fashion. Longtime tour veteran Dallas Friday took 2nd position showing the field that she is riding stronger than ever, but just didn’t have enough to take out Oakley’s Nicola Butler. Who rode hard in the challenging conditions and stood up both her passes to take the victory. And now the current Queen of Wake champion Nicola Butler added a US Masters title to her resume.

This win is huge for Butler as she failed to podium at the first pro event of the season at Wake Games. And will now take this momentum into the 1st stop on the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour in Fort Worth, Texas.
