Report #1 from Ironman World Championships 2010 in Kona, HI

Sunset at Oakley Safehouse

Well, its official Oakley is settled into our beautiful safehouse in Kona, Hawaii for Ironman 2010. The compound is one of a kind with a tennis court, pool, four small houses, lavish gardens and an ocean dock on the three acres that make up the grounds. Current Sports Marketing staff and former triathletes Greg Welch, Cuan Peterson and David Hyam have set up the house nicely with the help of Bryan Shelton from North American Marketing.

Inside the main house is a full custom bar for all the athletes to build out their eyewear for race day. All the heavy hitters have swung by the house the last two days from two-time current Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander of Australia to top contender Rasmus Henning of Denmark.

Today marks the last day the athletes will swing by for product, as most will be going into a brief hibernation of sorts to stay cool, calm and collected. No need to train anymore, it’s time to get your feet up and mentally prepare for the most enduring event in sports – the Ironman World Championships this Saturday.

Look for another update before the media night on Friday with some video clips that Welchy was able to take of the first round of athletes that came by on Monday.
