Gomez finished 2007 ranked no. 1 in the world, and was crowned BG Triathlon World Cup Series champion. It was the second straight overall title for Gomez, an award that earned him a $40,000 bonus in 2007. At one point he finished on the podium in 15 straight races, and he has won nine World Cup events. The all-time record for World Cup victories is 11, by Canada’s Simon Whitfield. Gomez has had to battle his own government’s sport governing body, which forced him to lose his international sporting license.     Oakley’s reigning Asian champion Ryosuke Yamamoto, wearing radars, placed third Sunday in the ITU Triathlon World Cup Series in Ishigaki, Japan. Russian Valentin Meshcheryakov took wth win with a time of 1:54:02. Japan’s Yuichi Hosoda rounded out the podium.

    Oakley’s Terenzo Bozzone of New Zealand and Samantha McGlone of Canada both used outstanding half marathons to pull off their victories at the Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 in Galveston, Texas. Sunday’s race served as the Ironman 70.3 US Pro Championship and included a $75,000 professional prize purse with a $5,000 bonus for the first U.S. professional male and female finishers.

    Oakley’s Greg Bennett and Craig Alexander placed second and third for the men, while Oakley’s Mirinda Carfrae and Jillian Petersen rounded out the podium for the women at the St. Anthony’s triathlon against a tough field of competitors. Americans Cameron Dye and Sarah Haskins earned early-season wins.
