Gomez finished 2007 ranked no. 1 in the world, and was crowned BG Triathlon World Cup Series champion. It was the second straight overall title for Gomez, an award that earned him a $40,000 bonus in 2007. At one point he finished on the podium in 15 straight races, and he has won nine World Cup events. The all-time record for World Cup victories is 11, by Canada’s Simon Whitfield. Gomez has had to battle his own government’s sport governing body, which forced him to lose his international sporting license.     Oakley’s Tim Don of Great Britain, with a strong closing run, the Hy-Vee ITU Elite Cup Triathlon in Iowa, along with the sport’s largest winner’s check. Oakley’s Emma Snowsill took dominated the women’s event Sunday, winning in 1:59.35. Oakley’s Emma Moffatt finished second behind Snowsill. Oakley’s Kris Gemmell of New Zealand and Courtney Atkinson of Australia rounded out the men’s podium, taking second and third, respectively.

    Oakley’s former Ironman 70.3 world champion Terenzo Bozzone of New Zealand dominated the Eagleman Half Ironman in Maryland last weekend. Bozzone posted the fastest run split of the day, finishing 1 minute and 34 seconds ahead of James Cotter, who placed second, to take the overall title.
