    Step aside Mr. Gomez-Noya and Brownlee brothers…there’s a new sheriff in town. Mario Mola of Spain has made a name for himself on the ITU World Triathlon Series in the past few years, but he generally takes a back seat to the competition between his fellow countryman Javier Gomez-Noya and British royalty, Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee, who have made a habit of hogging triathlon podiums as of late.

    In a highly competitive, back-and-forth battle at Mission Beach, San Diego, American Gwen Jorgensen took the title of 2013 Omegawave World Triathlon Series San Diego Champion. The Wisconsin native became the first ever American to win a World Triathlon Series event, beating out Britain’s Non Stanford and Australia’s Emma Moffat, who took second and third respectively. Jorgensen snuck just under the two our mark for her first ever win as a USA Triathlon Elite competitor. Additionally her win crowned her USA Elite Women’s National Champion.
