America’s 200m Man, Wallace Spearmon Jr. Visits Oakley World Headquarters

Wallace Spearmon Jr. is as fierce as they come on the track. As America’s 200-meter standout, he can be seen lining up in the blocks along side some of the world’s quickest men, confident and never intimidated. While most look at Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and now Warren Weir, as unbeatable Jamaican powerhouses, Spearmon sees them as just within his reach. He’s represented the United States in two Olympic Games now and has unfortunately come home empty handed in both attempts. While this is a source of frustration for Spearmon, he uses it as utter motivation to train like he’s never trained before for the next four years, with one goal in mind. With an impressive fourth place finish this year in London, Spearmon already has his sights set on a medal in Rio 2016 and nothing’s going to get in his way. Not even Jamaica’s finest.

While it wasn’t the result most people expected, Canada’s Michelle Stilwell was happy with a first and second place finish in London. Her fans likely expected the world record holder in the T52 100-meter and 200-meter races to finish first in both.

“I don’t think you can be disappointed with any (medal from the Paralympic Games),” said Stilwell, who holds the world records in the 100m, 200m and 400m events. “I went out there and gave it everything I could and I’m ecstatic to come home with anything.”

The Dominican Republic’s Felix Sanchez is beginning to enjoy the time of 47.63 seconds. Monday night in London, Sanchez completed the 400m-hurdle event in that exact time. On a chilly drizzly night on the track, Sanchez was the first man to cross the finish line, recapturing the title that he earned back in 2004 in Athens. The irony of it all – his winning time in Greece – you guessed it…47.63 seconds.

Lolo Jones has spent her entire life overcoming hurdles, on and off the track, and this weekend in Eugene at the US Track and Field Olympic Trials was no exception. Fighting off pre-race jitters, a strange start in preliminaries and a rain delayed semi-final, Jones confirmed her spot on Team USA this summer in London where she will take on the best in the world in the 100-meter hurdles.

Twenty-seven year old Wallace Spearmon is the first to admit he had his hopes and dreams taken away from him in a matter of seconds at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Spearmon crossed the finish line of the 200-meter finals in China in third place. Ecstatic about an Olympic bronze medal, Spearmon was quickly stripped of his prize on a technicality. He had stepped out of his lane, disqualifying him from medal contention. Four years later, Spearmon is back on top of his game, armed and ready to redeem himself this summer in London. He is on a hot streak as of late, posting victories in four of his most recent races.
