Sam Stosur


Sam took up tennis at the age of eight after a friend gave her a tennis racquet for Christmas. She used to hit at the local courts with her brother, Daniel. He soon realised she had above-average ability and convinced their parents, Diane and Tony, to give Sam coaching lessons. She went away on her first overseas trip at the age of 13, competing in the World Youth Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia. At 14 she joined the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) under Geoff Masters and in 2001, when she was 16, Sam joined the Australian Institute of Sport tennis program.     If you think Oakley Tennis Star Sam Stosur has been ‘flying under the radar’ in her rise to stardom…not for much longer. The amazing Aussie was presented with the inaugural John Newcombe Medal this past weekend – topping worldwide tennis superstars Llyeton Hewitt and Anastasia Rodionova as Australia’s premier player in 2010. The award was an enormous honor for Sam, who has been making enormous waves in the sport as of late.

    O’s Janko Tipsarevic is ridiculously pumped. The Serbian Tennis Hero, who stunned the Czech Republic in an ultra electric Davis Cup semifinal match in front of an utterly raucous Serbian home crowd in September, is set to lead his country’s squad into battle in the Finals. The team will take the court once again in front of a decidedly partisan home crowd in Belgade. The opening match, sure to draw the eyes of tennis fans across the Globe, will pit Janko against French Tennis sensation Gael Monfils. In Janko’s trademark prescription Flak Jackets, that is. It all goes down at 5:00 a.m. Pacific on Dec. 3 – live on the Tennis Channel.

    11th can be a good thing…if it means you went a perfect 11-0 in ATP Tour Level Finals, that is. Oakley’s Bob and Mike Bryan capped off their 11th tour-level title this past weekend at the Swiss Indoors at Basel (Switzerland), solidifying their year-end No. 1 ATP Doubles Team Ranking. The long-time O duo emerged victorious over the top team of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic 6-3, 3-6, 10-3, besting their rival pair in their first match against one another since May.
