Sam Stosur


Sam took up tennis at the age of eight after a friend gave her a tennis racquet for Christmas. She used to hit at the local courts with her brother, Daniel. He soon realised she had above-average ability and convinced their parents, Diane and Tony, to give Sam coaching lessons. She went away on her first overseas trip at the age of 13, competing in the World Youth Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia. At 14 she joined the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) under Geoff Masters and in 2001, when she was 16, Sam joined the Australian Institute of Sport tennis program. Oakley’s Serbian Tennis Star Janko Tipsarevic controlled the first set at the Delray Beach International Championship Finals this past week, but tough Argentine Juan Martin del Potro proved too much to handle as he topped Janko 6-4, 6-4 to take the contest.

Flat out awesomeness from Oakley’s phenomenal Bob and Mike Bryan, who tallied their 10th major title with a huge victory over Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes (6-3, 6-4) this past weekend at the Australian Open. The dynamic O duo, currently the World No. 1, were throwing down in their sixth Aussie Open final in seven years after finishing as runners up in 2004-2005. But despite their frequent appearances and amazing success, they’re as charged up as ever. “It never gets old,” said Bob, rockin’ his Oakley watch. “Especially to play those two guys, the ‘Indian Express’, who we have tons of respect for. We were jacked up for this match. These two guys are legends. It was an extra special feeling out there on the court playing two guys that dominated the game 10 years ago.”

    Oakley’s Janko Tipsarevic became a Serbian National Tennis Hero of sorts this past September. His stunning, emotionally charged victory over the Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek in the semifinal match of the Davis Cup – which went down in his home country in front of an incredibly raucous crowd – pushed the Serbian Team into the Finals and into the sport’s limelight. It couldn’t have been scripted any better. Until it was announced that the Davis Cup Finals would be held in Belgrade, that is. The Serbs won. And they all shaved their heads.
