Oakley’s Janko Tipsarevic became a Serbian National Tennis Hero of sorts this past September.

His stunning, emotionally charged victory over the Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek in the semifinal match of the Davis Cup – which went down in his home country in front of an incredibly raucous crowd – pushed the Serbian Team into the Finals and into the sport’s limelight. It couldn’t have been scripted any better.

Until it was announced that the Davis Cup Finals would be held in Belgrade, that is.

Flash forward to the big contest…Janko and his Serbian Teammates were pitted against the formidable French – lead by Tennis star Gael Monfils.

With incredible pressure and the weight of Serbian fans from all across the country, Janko drew the first match of the Finals – with Monfils as his designated rival. The pressure got the best of him, as he fell 6-1 7-6 6-0 to push France to a 1-0 lead. But the Serbs raged back – lead by Tennis star Novak Djokovic – in front of a partisan, utterly rocking crowd.

The President of Serbia himself witnessed the spectacle – and after taking a double’s match, France would need to win just one of the two singles matches left to play in order to emerge as Davis Cup champions. But the Serbs had other plans.

The last two matches were dominating victories in favor of the spirited home squad. Djokovic smashed Monfils 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 – while Viktor Troicki topped Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.

The coveted Davis Cup was theirs. And Belgrade erupted.

Absolute joy was in the air in the stadium…so much joy that Serbia’s players remembered one promise they made. If they were to win the Davis Cup, they’d shave their heads. And they didn’t go back on their word.

Scope out the following footage of the final match of the Finals…and the head shaving action right on the court and in the locker room (In Serbian):

…And Belgrade going crazy:

Congratulations to Janko and the Serbian Team for a truly awesome victory on their home turf!
