Samantha Stosur has had a long and successful career in the sport of professional tennis. Anyone who knows the story of Stosur will easily point out that the 2011 US Open was without a doubt her most successful and career defining moment. Stosur ousted the best player in the world, Serena Williams in the final at Flushing Meadow to shock the world and collect her first, and only Grand Slam tournament title.
It’s been an admittedly tough stretch for Australia’s shining tennis star, Sam Stosur since she stunned the world in 2011, topping Serena Williams in the final of the US Open. Since her win in New York, Stosur had failed to secure another singles title, until Sunday. The 29-year-old entered the Southern California Open in Carlsbad as a wild card and fought her way to the event title, beating Victoria Azarenka 6-2 6-3 in Sunday’s final.
