Recent Tour de France News
The 2011 Tour de France was undoubtedly one of the most exciting Tours of the last 20 years; complete with devastating crashes, exciting sprint finishes and an emotional overall victory that has been years in the making. Oakley is proud to congratulate Cadel Evans on his much-deserved victory as well as the rest of the Oakley team who collectively rode one of the most successful Tours in recent Oakley history.
The dying words of his late coach were more than likely at the top of his mind. Oakley star cyclist Cadel Evans fulfilled the dream of his coach Aldo Sassi this weekend – claiming the Yellow Jersey in Stage 20 on his way to an overall Tour de France Championship triumph. The Aussie standout, the first of his country to claim the ultra-prestigious honor, closed out what had been one of the most intensely dramatic races in years by trampling a 57-second deficit to fellow Oakley star Andy Schleck (Leopard Trek).
The 2009/2010 runner up has officially arrived. Oakley Star Cyclist Andy Schleck of Leopard Trek – edged out last year by defending Champ Alberto Contador for the Yellow Jersey – finally clinched a stage victory (18) after steadily stepping up over the course of the race. The 26-year-old phenom stepped up the attack in stunning fashion to triumph atop the Col du Galibier. Reminiscent of past battles with his primary rival, Andy broke clear with a charge on the Col d’Izoard – leaving Contador flailing in the peloton.
