The intense nature of the first three days final yielded with yesterday producing a more transitional stage, but also the longest stage of the race. It was again dominated by an almost race-long breakaway, which was finally caught before the final kilometers.

In the end Oakley riders of HTC Mark Renshaw and Mark Cavendish charged down the right side of the road. Thus creating perfection and poetry in motion as Renshaw charged at the 200-meter mark to go banner. This left the road open and clear for Cavendish to do what he does best—open up the gas and launch his missile-like acceleration for Tour stage win number two.

With his second stage win of the race, Mark Cavendish has now reached a total of 12 stage wins – a British record, with the potential of the number going higher before the race ends in Paris.
