Thor (pronounced “Tour”) Hushovd began his racing career at age nine, tearing through the streets of Southern Norway. In the decades since, he has become well known for sprinting and time trialing, and in 2006 become the first Norwegian to lead the Tour de France. He was the 2010 World Road Champion in Australia, becoming the first Scandinavian ever to hold that title.

In the afterglow of that October victory in Geelong, Australia, VeloNews wrote, “Hushovd… dominated a bunch sprint at the end of a thrilling 267km race, beating Denmark’s Matti Breschel and Australia’s Allan Davis.”

As a seven-time Tour de France stage winner, as well as the points classification winner in 2005 and 2009, Hushovd has stood atop the prestigious Tour podium for either stage wins or points in ‘01, ‘02, ‘04, ‘06, ’07, ’08 and ’09. In addition he’s won three stages at the Vuelta a Espana, including the point classification in 2006. In 2009, he won stages in several races including the Tour of California, Volta a Catalunya, and the Tour of Missouri. In 2010, Thor finished 2nd at Paris-Roubaix and then suffered a collarbone injury in early May.

In 2011, Hushovd won stage four of the Tour de Suisse.
