The dying words of his late coach were more than likely at the top of his mind.

Oakley star cyclist Cadel Evans fulfilled the dream of his coach Aldo Sassi this weekend – claiming the Yellow Jersey in Stage 20 on his way to an overall Tour de France Championship triumph. The Aussie standout, the first of his country to claim the ultra-prestigious honor, closed out what had been one of the most intensely dramatic races in years by trampling a 57-second deficit to fellow Oakley star Andy Schleck (Leopard Trek).

There were 10 men to break away from the pack after the 90km mark – and Thor powered to the front with Ryder Hesjedal and fellow Oakley Rider Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky).

15 ultra intense stages are in the rear view mirror. And still, Oakley riders are displaying their top form.

Mark Cavendish, as expected, is definitely one of the most impressive. Oakley’s star sprinter continued dominance of his craft by claiming the 15th Tour de France stage – his fourth stage win of the race and a move to tighten his grip on the overall points competition lead.

The British speed demon blazed past the rest of the field at the tail end of the stage’s 192.5km stretch from Limoux to Montpellier – racking up his overall eighth win of the 2011 season.

O’s prominent HTC Highroad rider now holds 70 wins: 29 Grand Tour Stage and 19 in the Tour de France – under his belt. More than impressive. And the Green Jersey definitely looks at home on him.

Thor Hushovd has already rocked the Yellow Jersey.

And he’s in form to keep challenging – as evidenced by a solid Stage 13 triumph at the Tour de France. O’s Norwegian star blazed clear of the peloton after 57km as the overall leaders conserved some of their energy for what will be an ultra-intense Saturday stage in the mountains.

Rival Jeremy Roy attempted to charge for the front of the pack at the final climb – a monster – Col d’Aubisque. A long downhill descent into a flat finish into Lourdes proved to be a factor as Thor channeled all his energy into catching Roy with just 2km left to claim the win by 10 seconds.

The victory continues Thor’s stellar Tour record – with nine individual stages under his belt (with at least one victory in the last six Tours – as well as taking the green points jersey in 2005 and 2009.

Samuel Sanchez is no stranger to podiums.

Oakley’s Spanish Olympic Road Race Champion claimed victory at the first high mountain stage (Stage 12) of the 2011 Tour de France – clipping Jelle Vanendert to the finish at Lux Ardiden.

The two road chargers smashed their way together on the lower slopes of the Pyrenean ascent – but Samuel eventually powered away from the field with 300m left.

But he wasn’t the only Oakley speedster to see success during the stage. Fellow O riders Frank and Andy Schleck gained an upper hand in the escalating battle for the yellow jersey.

They’re calling it ‘Tour de Crash.’

The first week of the prominent Tour de France has been more than insane – laced with dramatic crashes and intense action. From rider collisions with fans on the road, cyclists flying off into ditches to a media car clipping Juan Antonio Flecha and sending another rider into a barbed wire fence, this year’s race has been more than brutal. But one thing’s for certain…Oakley Cyclists are displaying their intentions to dominate.

O’s Norwegian Star Thor Hushovd came out of the gates on fire – holding the coveted Yellow Jersey with the overall lead for a solid eight days. Stage nine saw him hand over the jersey on the slopes of the Massif Central. But up to that point, he did just enough to top the standings.

Our Norwegian Cyclist Edvald Boasson Hagen powered his way to a Stage 6 victory during the longest of the contest’s stages. The 226.5km stretch, from Dinan to Lisieux, had Edvald edge fellow O rider Matt Goss on the uphill drag to the finish – with O’s Thor Hushovd rounding out the podium.

Thor, who has been rocking that Yellow Jersey to this point, did just enough to hold onto the coveted shirt by a mere second in front of Oakley’s Cadel Evans – with O’s Frank Schleck four seconds behind the third spot.
