The first round of the Oakley Pro Junior began its trial round today in Shidashita Point of Ichimiyamachi-Town in Chiba Prefecture today. The condition of the waves were 1 to 2 meter highs which matched perfectly with the skills of our Juniors. The event is divided into U 21 Pro Junior class (Prize money worth $5,000) and U 16 Cadet Class (Sub Prize, return airfare to Bali plus accommodation). The annual amateur surf event, “Big Day Out” takes place the next day, 8/10, Sunday.

Due to the overwhelming response, the Oakley Pro Junior, originally scheduled on 8/9, Saturday was quickly re-scheduled to 8/8, Friday. Many great performance and high level surf skills were witnessed in the heats today.

Kaishu Takana (Oakley) of Tokushima Prefecture was in the Heat 1 of the round of 32. From the start of the heat, he scored high points and impressed the audience with his awesome skills as a seed rider. The fantastic wave condition carried on throughout the day and even in the late afternoon. The riders were seen fighting for the waves to prepare themselves for the big day tomorrow.

The first call for the main event will be announced at 6:30am and start at 7:00am. The event organizer anticipates even more heated competition tomorrow and the day after in this summer affair. ASP Japan will broadcasting the event live on the internet. For those who cannot come to Shidashita Point, please log onto our site and enjoy the live streaming show.
