Leilani Steps Up

With Rochelle Ballard no-showing due to travel difficulties, Oakley’s Leilani Gryde moved into her spot and is making her first Women’s WCT debut at the NAB Beachley Classic this week.

The timing of this is strangely appropriate in the wake of Melanie Redman-Carr’s recent announcement that she will forfeit the rest of the season, thus catapulting Gryde directly into the second half of the competitive season as first alternate on the amateur tour and the newest member of the women’s professional WCT surfing tour.

Gryde will attend the last three CT contests: The Mancora Peru Classic, the Roxy Pro at Sunset Beach, Oahu and the Billabong Pro at Honolua Bay, Maui. She will be the first women’s apparel athlete to be on the pro tour. Congratulations, Lei!
