Oakley’s local threat Chris Ward started things off strong yesterday morning at Lowers during Round 3 of the Boost Mobile Pro. Ward caught several quality waves in the opening minutes of the heat and those early scores were what it took to oust Brazil’s Raoni Monteiro.

Many hours later, in the final heat of the day, Oakley’s Tom Whitaker surfed fast and smart, fitting in the right amount of maneuvers to take the victory over Brazilian Leonardo Neves.

In between, Oakley’s Adriano de Souza placed 17th, as he was eliminated by former ASP World Champion C.J. Hobgood.

Oakley’s Bruce Irons secured a solid wave, but Brazilian Rodrigo Dornelles fought back aggressively and scored the highest single-wave score of the day to advance.

In Heat 6, Oakley’s Royden Bryson opened strong, slashing off the top of one of the better peaks of the heat and throwing a crowd-pleasing air. But it was France’s Jeremy Flores who took the heat and advanced.

Nine of the Top 10 surfers were eliminated throughout the day, including World No. 1 Mick Fanning and current No. 3 Andy Irons.

Today, Chris Ward is up against Australia’s Troy Brooks in the first heat of the day, while Tom Whitaker squares off against compatriot Shaun Cansdell the final heat to wrap up Round 4.
