Triple Crown: O’s Julian Wilson Rounds Out Podium at the Reef Hawaiian Pro

Reef Hawaiian Pro

Julian Wilson is no rookie.

But when it comes to Vans Triple Crown contests on the North Shore (Hawaii), the Oakley Team ripper as fresh as they get. Nonetheless, Julian smashed his way to a solid third-place finish at the Reef Hawaiian Pro – Haleiwa this past weekend, making a strong showing at his first-ever 6-star Prime rated final. The podium catapults Julian to front-runner status for the JN Automotive Rookie of the Vans Triple Crown award: recognition for the top newcomer to the series.

On his journey to the podium, Julian began his run by topping a talented field in the round of 96 – edging out the legendary Sunny Garcia himself (also a Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Champion), along with Sean Moody to push to the final rounds.

The 30-minute final featured far less than ideal amounts of pumpage – with a total of only 11 waves rolling in for the contending pack. Head-high sets did find their way in, however, with Joel “Parko” Parkinson capitalizing the most on the lull-smacked situation. Parko topped the heat – which also included Heath Joske and Joel Centeio – with Julian rounding out the podium.
