The 2010 Oakley Surfshop Challenge at Seaside Reef in Cardiff

New truck to So Cal surf contest 020

This past Friday, April 2nd kicked off the first in a serious of surf contests held across the country. The Oakley Surfshop Challenge contests are made up of four man teams from some of the best surf shops around. Each team has two shop team riders and two shop employees. This year’s OSSC has seven regional events with the National Championships taking place at the Huntington Beach Pier in September.

The 2010 series now includes stops in Cardiff, Newport Beach, and Santa Cruz in California as well as Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Kewalo Basin on Oahu’s South Shore.

With blue skies and big waves in the forecast, the Rolling O Lab pulled up to Seaside Reef at 5 am with only a hint of light on the horizon. A light offshore breeze held the head high plus sets making them barrel before crashing into Cardiff’s cobblestone shores. We couldn’t have asked for a better day for a surf contest!

Throughout the morning, the contestants and shop owners toured the lab and became believers in Oakley HDO. After their tour they received a pair of custom engraved SD Dispatch and Holbrooks! Needless to say, everyone was pumped!

A special thanks goes out to Liam Barrett, Andrew Pate, and Marty Mathiesen for making the event a great success! Awesome working with you guys!
