Last weekend Oakley supported Coastal Edge, a 9-door Surf & Skate retail chain, in sponsoring the 47th annual East Coast Surfing Championships held in Virginia Beach. Tropical storm Daniel spun its way right off the mid-Atlantic coast, providing fun surf for the top pros and amateurs. There were rippable chest-to-head high waves for the first three days. On the final day, the surf dropped to a challenging knee-to-waist high making the surfers work for each and every point possible.

Oakley athletes posted decent showings across the board, with the standout performance being laid down by Karina Petroni, who took first in the Women’s Pro division. An unfortunate interference call knocked Oakley athlete and NY supergrom Balaram Stack into fourth place in the Junior Pro Division.

It seems all of Virginia Beach (crowds ranged from 60,000 to 100,000 per day) came out for this four-day celebration of not only surfing, but other beach sports, parties and entertainment. The cornerstone of Oakley’s presence was based around the Rolling O Lab; pushing tours close to 400 people per day through its doors. Dee Nachnani, the owner of Coastal Edge, commented, “Coastal Edge’s East Coast Surfing Championships was definitely elevated by the presents of Oakley. Oakley with its O-Lab, Little John, and team helped raise the bar on what industry events should be like in the future and we at Coastal Edge appreciate and respect all their hard work.” Oakley’s Tyler Hendley and Tom “Tom” Ryen put on some ramp demos, while Lil’ Jon and Kelley James put on performances.
