Bio

“I want to be a world champion.”

Kanoa Igarashi set high standards from himself at an early age and many believe that he has what it takes to achieve that goal.

Growing up in Huntington Beach, California, young Kanoa watched his dad surf day after day. At the ripe age of three, he was done spectating and jumped in the water himself. He was an instant talent and quickly commanded the attention of the surfing community. In 2008-2009, at the age of 11, Kanoa gained NSSA fame by claiming a stunning 30 contest wins to set a new record for the most victories in a single season.

Not only is Kanoa increasingly popular in the US, he is somewhat of a local celebrity in Japan. The Japanese media has made a number of documentaries about Kanoa causing him to be recognized quite frequently when he visits his native country. Although he claims it’s a bit weird to be stopped for autographs, he doesn’t deny that it’s still “kind of cool.”

When he’s not out dominating the NSSA and ASP Junior tours, you will most likely find Kanoa surfing his beloved south side Huntington Pier. Although Kanoa thrives on traveling the world to various tour stops, his native “Surf City” Huntington Beach will always remain a special place for him. Its where he learned to surf, it’s where he grew up and it’s where he plans to stay (for now). Out of the water, he enjoys hobbies like skateboarding, golf and fishing, but we’re willing to bet nothing will overtake his love for surf. He aspires to ride like his boyhood idols Kelly Slater, Dane Reynolds and Julian Wilson, but has his own dreams of world surf domination. With so much talent at such a young age, there is no limit what Kanoa can accomplish.
