Q & A

  1. When did you first start riding? Where/why?

I first started in the shore break on my dad's old thick board while my brother was doing nippers.

  2. When did you turn pro?

Well I would probably only say about 2 years ago so at about 16 or 17 years old.

  3. What are the events, wins, memories that stand out most throughout your career so far?

My single very best win would have to be winning the 2011 ASP Australasian Junior Series. I really put my head down this year and made it my goal to win the series and it definitely wasn't easy at all. It all came down to the last event in South Australia and everyone who was in the top 5 and in contention for the series win was in the quarterfinals. I made it to the semifinal and before I paddled out they called out on the speaker that if I won the semi final then I will have won the series and I was so nervous before the heat...but when I got out there I calmed down and started off with a really good wave and backed it up and won.

  4. If there’s one thing that people in the industry would recognize you by, what would that be?

I'm not totally sure but I think airs cause that is something I have really been trying to use in my heats and constantly in free surfs.

  5. What drives you to be sicker than everyone else?

I just really love surfing and nothing really beats landing new things that you haven't done before and getting barreled so that one of the main things for me.

  6. If you weren’t ripping on a surfboard, what kind of menial task would you want to do?

I think I would probably be skateboarding because I skated all day on my friend's half pipe and at skate parks and everywhere when I was small and was really getting into it, but I was surfing a lot too and my mum persuaded me to surf because I broke my arm skating and then kept hurting it.

  7. If you had to date one person who would it be: Pamela Anderson after Tommy Lee, Snookie from Jersey Shore or your mom in the past like Michael J. Fox from Back to the Future?

Um I reckon I would have to say Pamela Anderson.

  8. If you had to share a bathroom with one Oakley rider, who would it NOT be and why?

Not too sure about this one but if Beau counts then I would probably not want to share with him cause he seems like he would be lethal.

  9. Tell me a funny story about an Oakley rider...(We’ll never tell)

I don't have many but one evening in Hawaii, Beau Emerton took me, Lee Wilson and Tim Macdonald out to dinner and on the way back Beau said we were running low on petrol and there was a petrol station ahead but Beau said we would be sweet to make it home. About 300 metres passed the petrol station we cut out and it would have been ok but we were in a dodgy part of town and more and more cars pulled up with peple shooting up heroin so it was pretty sketchy and to make it worse the petrol station didnt have any petrol cans so we rung Andrew Shields to pick us up and take us to the next petrol station.

  10. What wave scares you the most?

Pipeline and Sunset. Pipe just because it's so heavy and Sunset because when those wide sets come and you get caught there isn't much you can do.

  11. Which break is just pure FUN for you?

My home break at Burleigh Heads is one of my favorite because there are good barrels, long walls and punt sections so it pretty much has everything.

  12. Your most gnarly “I got owned” story…

I was in Bali on my way back from Keramas with two friends and we were driving our scooters back and on the really long straight where everyone fangs it we were just cruising at 60 or 70 km'h and this car pulled out to overtake a truck about 10 metres in front of me, and I just slammed on both breaks and turned but it didnt do anything so I smashed into the car and went flying in the air but luckily I flew so far that I landed off the road on the grass and just rolled for a bit and didn't have anything broken but I was really bruised all over and sore for about a week after plus I wrote the scooter off.

  13. Talent…other than doing no handed pushups:

  17. First thing you do when you get back from a trip is…

Have a good sleep in my own bed and then just go surf with friends.

  18. A lot of riders never get to go to Prom, did you go, who did you take or who would you ask if you could go today?

I didn't end up getting to go cause I didn't do year 11 or 12 but if I could do it today I would probably just ask the hottest girl I know.

  19. Fist pumping? Head Banging? C-Walking? Or Funky Chicken? Which one? Or all of the above?

    Can't beat a fist pump.

  20. Dream vacation spot:

I reckon this one island in Tahiti called Rangiroa. There is the sickest right hand barrel and you can do day trips to the blue lagoon which is the bluest water you have ever seen and you get to swim/feet the reef sharks.

  21. Would you rather get punched in the gut by Mr. T. or super roundhouse kicked in the face by Chuck Norris?

Definitely get roundhouse kicked by Chuck Norris.

  22. What tricks are you working on?

I have been trying this thing that is in between a flynstone flip and a full rotation double grab air but I haven't been able to stick one yet.
