Bio
Marlon Lipke was born in Portugal in 1984 to father Dago and mother Conny, both from Germany. His parents had fled the cold weather back in 1982 and found themselves a new home in Lagos on the Algarve, the perfect breeding ground for a young surfer.
Marlon started to surf on the South Coast of the Algarve when he was 8. It didn’t take long before he entered his first contests. The first major result came in 1998, when he won the European Title in the Under 14 category. Since then Marlon’s success hasn’t stopped. He is the 7 times German Champion, won the European Pro Junior Title in 2004, and finished 3rd at the Billabong World Junior Champs in Australia the same year, the most prestigious junior event in the world.
2007 was a great year for Marlon. He not only won a couple of events on the European Pro Tour, he also took out the Quiksilver Pro France Trials, earned himself a spot amongst the best surfers in the world and finished the year ranked third in Europe. Check out his contest results and you will see what we are talking about. His priorities for 2008 are to qualify for the 2009 WCT (World Championship Tour), travel the world in search of perfect waves, shoot photos for his sponsors and work on a video part.
Ever since Marlon was a kid, he wanted to become a pro surfer. He has fulfilled his childhood dream and is stoked to be able to do what he loves and to make a living out of it.
Q&A
- You are the first German surfer ever to qualify for the ASP World Tour, does it mean a lot ? I haven't really thought about that yet. I don't even realize I really will be surfing on the ASP World Tour this year. I think it will take a bit more time until I get the bigger picture and start feeling it more realisticly. But it is something unbelievable for sure, for German surfing, Portuguese surfing (Marlon was raised and lives in the South of Portugal) and European surfing with seven of us being on tour. It is just amazing.
