10 Minutes with Julian

2007 has been a whirlwind of promo shoots and non-stop competition for 18 year-old Julian Wilson. Pro-junior performances include a win and a perfect 10 in the inaugural international Pro Junior at Keramas in Bali, not to mention stand-out rides in Maui, Indo and Western Oz. This year he’s on the hunt for his second World Junior title. He took time to stop by Oakley headquarters on his way home from Mexico…

Where were you last weekend?

In Mexico at the X Games. The waves were perfect. It was the best five days of swell I’ve ever had.

What’s next?

Headed home for the Pro Junior event in Sydney.

Do you ever get tired of competing and traveling?

I think that will come into play more when I’m on the WQS, when the QS is controlling my life. I’m just taking it as it comes. Right now I’m doing enough filming and photo shoots to mix it up.

When will you join the QS?

I’m not in any rush. I don’t want to get on until I have a good chance for the CT.

Young Guns 3 is premiering soon. Are you excited about it?

It’s coming along really good. It’s the best one I’ve had yet. My footage is mostly from Bali and Australia. I’ll be at the Ventura premiere and then at all the east coast stops.

What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?

Definitely the Young Guns boat trip. It was a super nice boat and I was with all my childhood heroes. It was really good surfing the whole time.

Where are you hoping to surf this summer?

What are the worst injuries you’ve had?

I stabbed myself in the leg with my board. Had to get a handful of internal/external stitches. I snapped my leg snowboarding. On the morning of my first day…

What’s your biggest goal this year?

To win the World Juniors in January.
