Bio

Hailing from the many young and talented coasts of Australia; Adam Melling is turning heads with his smooth approach that bridges the gap between power and flare. Growing up in Lennox Head, Australia, gives Adam the tools he has used to become the worlds best up and coming surfers. Surfing waves like Lennox point and a drive away from the widely exposed Super bank on a regular basis. In 2004 Adam won the Bells beach Junior pro putting him on the map as a junior surfer. Today Adam is traveling the world on the WQS tour competing for a slot on the World Championship tour in the future.

  • How did you start surfing? How old were you? My Dad got me into it at a very young age, as any kid wants to do what there Dad does. I would have been 3 years old.
  • Favorite movies? Chopper, Braveheart
  • If you were not a pro surfer, you would be? Running some business...restaurant, coffee shop or health food bar. Or maybe a fitness instructor.
  • What is the biggest obstacle you have faced? Copping with my Dad passing away when I was 12.
  • What is the best advice you've heard? God never gave you something too big to handle.
  • What is the best advice you've heard on improving your surfing? Just have fun with it. Although it can get stressful at times, you surf your best when you are just having fun.
  • To be a successful pro surfer, you need to: Keep your body and mind healthy, have fun with it and keep that competitive edge.
  • At this level, what is something unique you do in your training to improve your surfing? I have a fitness trainer that really helps me keep fit. I focus on core fitness. It is good to do something other than surfing and it really helps when you are in the water.
  • What is one trait of yours that is truly Australian? I say mate way too often.
  • Did you ever have a doubt on whether to pursue pro surfing? It sort of just happened for me. I finished school and did ok on the junior series. I was asked if I was up to all of the traveling and time away. It was kind of a big thing coming from a small town, but I love competing and surfing so I went for it.
  • What is one thing that you have learned about the world this year from traveling? It definitely opens your mind. You see a lot of different cultures and places where people do things so different to anything you've ever seen. In some places it shows us how good we have it and it shows us that we all need to be more respectful towards each other.
