The place is called Supertubos. A fully proper name for a place where Oakley Star Surf Team Ripper Adriano de Souza would find glory in five-to-seven foot barrels en route to victory at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal in Peniche. The Brazilian took out Kelly Slater before a packed beach at one of the premiere beach breaks on the Planet. Coming out the gates on fire in the Final – pitted against the legendary Slater – Adriano threw down for an impressive 9-point ride, getting shacked in a long, deep barrel.

Brazil is probably on fire right about now. If the coming World Cup (soccer) – set to hit the vibrant nation – isn’t enough reason to party, surely Adriano de Souza’s huge victory at the Billabong Rio Pro today will get things rockin’ quick. Oakley’s Brazilian Surf Team Ripper smashed his way to a home turf victory – topping Taj Burrow in two-to-four foot waves at Barra da Tijuca. The triumph rockets him to the top of the ASP World Title points standings. With Round 5 action going into full effect, Adriano’s 15.63 point total toppled Burrow’s 12.17 after a super close, intense final – complete with a raucous, partisan Brazilian home crowd behind de Souza.
