    Nathan Yeomans (San Clemente, CA), 27, has claimed his third consecutive event title with a big win at the 2008 Oakley Newport Beach Pro over fellow finalists Dillon Perillo (Malibu, CA), 18, Travis Mellem (San Clemente, CA), 23, and Micah Byrne (Huntington Beach, CA), 26, in clean two-to-three foot waves at Newport Beach’s 56th Street.

    The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 2-Star Oakley Newport Beach Pro ran the Quarterfinals this morning and the final 16 competitors tore into the clean two-to-three foot barrels on offer at Newport Beach’s 56th Street. The 20th annual Newport Beach Surfing Championships also got underway.

    Increased swell in the four-to-five foot (1.5 metre) range graced the contest venue at Newport Beach’s 56th Street on Friday and competitors in the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 2-Star Oakley Newport Beach Pro and the ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior lifted the performance levels once again, narrowing the draws to the final 16 and final four respectively.

    The second day of the Oakley Newport Beach Pro saw standout surfing from Macy Mullen (Mililani, HI), 28, Brett Barley (Outer Banks, NC), 18 and Nat Young (Santa Cruz, CA), 17, in Round 3. Today’s top performers took advantage of the excellent two-to-four foot conditions on offer by posting the day’s top scores. The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 2-Star event running until Sunday of this week is the seventh of nine ASP WQS events held in North America.

    Oakley today announced the wildcards and swell forecast for the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 2-Star Oakley Newport Beach Pro, which begins tomorrow, Sept. 16 at Newport’s illustrious 56th Street break. The ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior and 20th Annual Newport Beach Surf Championships will run concurrently with the contest, which serves as stop number two on the Macy’s California Trifecta.
