Triple Crown: O Ripper Tyler Wright Triumphs at O’Neill World Cup of Surfing, Julian Wilson Grabs Second
Tyler Wright definitely isn’t Hawaiian. But her straight rippage at the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing at Sunset on the North Shore this past weekend might have fooled a few folks. The Australian Oakley Team youngster bested true Sunset Beach local Coco Ho, ASP World Champion Stephanie Gilmore and World No. 2 Sally Fitzgibbons to top the podium and grab the event title in an impressive display. The 16-year-old shredder also bagged honors as the female ‘Triple Crown Rookie of the Year.’ Another Aussie, Oakley’s Julian Wilson, charged big time at Sunset Beach, powering his way to a second place finish – barely edged by a mere 0.17 points by Brazil’s Raonio Montero.
