Oakley Style Masters China
Some of the best snowboarders in the world are expected to hit the Oakley Style Masters Quarter Pipe Competition in Badaling, China on February 1-6, 2006, the first major professional snowboard event ever to be organized in China. Oakley and The Arctic Challenge today announced the first six confirmed riders for competition while the remaining four spots are expected to be announced on January 21 in addition to a few rookies and Chinese riders. The big question – will one of these riders be the first to clear the elusive 10-meter mark and bring home Oakley’s Gold Time Bomb valued at more than US $25,000! The six confirmed riders are:
Terje Haakonsen (NOR, Oakley, Burton, Volcom), 31 years old
Terje is known as the Godfather of snowboarding, a living legend and one of the best snowboarders in the world the last 15 years running. He owns The Arctic Challenge snowboarding event in Norway. At the Nissan X Trail Jam in Tokyo Dome December 2005, Terje brought home his fourth victory.
Peter Line (USA, Forum, Foursquare, Electric), 30 years old
A style master in persona and inventor of several classic snowboard tricks, Peter earned six X Games medals but is seldom seen in competitions these days. Many snowboarders will say it’s a little miracle seeing Peter and Terje in the same competition again – and a big event set to go off in China.
Travis Rice (USA, Oakley, Libtech, DC), 23 years old
Travis busted into snowboarding when he won the X Games slopestyle first time he participated in the games in 2002. Many describes Travis as the best all-terrain snowboarder in the world. In 2004 he basically won all readers polls possible for best rider after throwing down 1080s over the 120 foot Chad’s gap in snowboard movie Pop from Absinthe Films. He has won The Arctic Challenge quarterpipe twice and is always a podium candidate for all quarterpipe contests. 2005 has been a busy year for Travis; travelling with Oakley showing his snowboard movie The Community Project to snowboard fans all over the world.
Nicolas Müller (SUI, Oakley, Burton, Arcus), 23 years old
Nobody tweaks and twist his board and body like Nicolas – a truly unique rider that continues to push the envelope of the spot and importance of individual style in snowboarding. Nicolas has been killing it at snowboard contests lately and is currently ranked number 1 of the TTR World Snowboard Tour.
Hampus Mosesson (SWE, Gnu, Quiksilver), 23 years old
Hampus is a smooth operator from Sweden. He did the highest air in the previous season at The Battle in his home country. In December he took the legendary Air & Style title at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
Wille Yli-Luoma (FIN, K2, Volcom, 32/Etnies Shoes), 26 years old
Wille combines technical tricks and style like few others. Like other brave snowboarding Fins, he will push the limits for what you can do on a snowboard – every time he straps in. The Chinese can expect high airs and breathtaking tricks from this young man.
