Snowboarding

At Winter X Games 2011, then-19-year-old Seb Toutant became the first male rookie to win SBD Slopestyle since Travis Rice in 2002. Hitting the city streets from Quebec to Anchorage, the backcountry powder in Whistler and Montana, and then Austria, Mt. Baker, Japan and Mammoth, as well, along the way, the spotlight is shined on faces you’ve certainly seen but maybe not yet been able to identify. Theirs are names and faces you better get to know.

In a country like Norway, where the quality of snowboarders runs deep, to be recognized as the best in the bunch means something. You’re doing something right. You’re on the right path. Not that we thought any differently about Stale Sandbech, but by being named Norwegian Snowboarder of the Year, it’s clear that State is killing it. “This was really big for me!” Stale said. “All the other guys nominated were riders I really respect and I am really proud to be named among them.”
