Second place is never easy. Especially for Shaun White. But Oakley’s Star Snowboarder/Skateboard Vert standout still had one heck of a year on the Dew Tour – ending with the runner-up spot in Las Vegas this past week behind Pierre-Luc Gagnon. By a mere half-point. The two aerial beasts – constantly gunning for each other on the Vert Ramp in Summer X Games and Dew Tour, put on an amazing show, as always – throwing down insane runs.

Gold Medals can’t evade Shaun White for too long. Oakley’s multi-sport superstar, fresh off yet another Superpipe Gold at Winter X, finally reclaimed the elusive Skateboard Vert Gold on Saturday – snatching the victory from the three-year grasp of Pierre-Luc Gagnon. But this one was far from being over…until the very last second. Incredible drama unfolded as the Final heat smashed into action – with the two favorites battling head to head. Shaun’s early run – racking up a solid 89.33 – was quickly clipped by a few huge runs from PLG, who quickly claimed the lead and held it for most of the session. It seemed insurmountable for many of the global fans watching the action on the broadcast and the nervous bunch on hand at Nokia Center. Then again, when is it ever a good idea to doubt Shaun White?

There’s no surprises here. Shaun White is going for Gold. Oakley’s multi-sport superstar is dropping into X Games 17 in Los Angeles on the heels of yet another glorious Winter X Games Superpipe Gold. And there’s absolutely no doubt that he’s aiming to power himself back to the top of the Skateboard Vert podium in the summertime. Although he will definitely be keeping it fun, as he does always, his ultimate goal is that shiny Gold medal. And if his past Vert Golds weren’t enough motivation for him, his brand new Oakley Gold Holbrook collection should do the trick.
