Kicking It Old School
The 3rd Annual Oakley & Corona Golf Pro / Am / Celebrity Tournament took place in Las Vegas, NV under perfect conditions at Las Vegas Country Club. Las Vegas CC is one the few remaining original golf courses from early days of town being developed into the party Mecca it is today. Registration started at 11am as players from all walks of Oakley made their way to the club.
The list was stacked with Oakley Reps, Sports Marketing Managers, Local Pros, Top Accounts and Oakley Athletes ranging from Pat Long a Porsche Racer to Kristi Leskinen a pro freeskier. Kristi had her television crew on hand documenting her new show for Fuel TV; make sure to look for that this winter.
Al Janc and Megan Pura from Oakley Sports Marketing Golf along with the help of several regional golf reps from Oakley decorated the course with Oakley signage, posters and banners at every hole and the driving range. Coronas, Water, Energy Drinks and food were available at holes one and ten to keep everyone refreshed.
Tee time was 1pm and that was when the fun really kicked in with the weather staying fairly cool for Vegas and a slight breeze, conditions could not have been better. Longest drive and closest to the pin were available on four different holes respectively to add to the mix of the best overall scores. In the end the pros put on a great display of golf with several low scores. And within the Am Division three net scores generated a 48 and two 52s, three scores that would seem impossible, but not on this day
After a solid day of golf everyone hung out on the patio at LVCC and had dinner while the awards were handed out. The food was great and the Coronas were flowing as Paul Hymas handed out over two-dozen awards, as well as several raffle prizes. In the end almost everyone walked away with some type of a prize, my favorite was seeing Matty Swanson’s (Oakley Sports Marketing Manager) father Larry, win closest to the pin on a par 3 for the second consecutive year in a row.
As the sun set over the desert sky everyone climbed into the shuttle buses to head back to our rooms at the Palms Hotel. Now as most of you know the Palms hosted the VMAs just the night before, so the place was still popping. Al Janc and crew had rented out the “Real World” suite for everyone to enjoy a fun Oakley after party in celebrating another successful Pro / Am / Celebrity Golf Tournament.
The “Real World” suite was a ton of fun as we danced, played pool, pulled pranks on each other and enjoyed a few drinks or ten. Ricky Barnes (Oakley Pro Golfer) delivered his signature dance moves for all to enjoy, while Russ Hennings (Oakley Sr. Staff Photographer) captured all the action. So instead of incriminating anyone with words, I will let Russ’ photos do the talking – check them out below.
