Gunning Wins X Games Women's Ski Superpipe Silver

Top qualifier and X Games rookie Megan Gunning made a last-second push to claim the silver medal in the women’s skiing superpipe at X Games 14.

The 17-year-old Canadian from Calgary made a great showing at her first X Games.

Last year Sarah Burke correctly prophesied that Gunning would be the top threat to her in superpipe. She was she right.

As Mike Douglas put it, “If this was a left wall contest, Megan Gunning would win hands down.”

Unfortunately for Gunning she didn’t have the same hit-for-hit quality of our gold medalist winner.

“I had no nerves at all, to be honest,” Gunning said. “It’s all gaining experience for myself. I wanted to have fun with it. I’m only 17, so I was super stoked with everything."

Gunning’s confidence and impressive bag of tricks blew the competition out of the water at eliminations Friday night. Her cork 900, 540, corked 720 and switch alley oop 540 were stylish and stompy.
