Dumont Destined for NASCAR?

Simon Dumont gave 009 SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series a shot and participated in round one.

Dumont had a fast lap time of 2:18.032 and averaged a speed of 85 miles per hour around the 3.72 mile long course. He improved six positions during the race to finish in 19th place.

“The entire experience was way more than I ever imagined that it would be,” said Dumont. “The first time for me to get in a professional-level racecar was yesterday, and I’m definitely hooked. My goal heading into this was to try to be competitive and not finish last, and I accomplished both goals. I’m going to do some work with my personal sponsors when I get home to see if I might be able to give the series a try full time next year.”

“Being a challenging course with 17 turns and different grades of altitude this is no walk in the park,” said Ryan Arciero, who mentored Dumont for the two days of racing. “Dumont raced well, we just have to get him a bit less aggressive in the turns. With some proper seat time Simon might find himself a new gig.”

Oakley is the major safety supplier of the series and is proud to be involved in the great series.

The TDI cup is fully carbon neutral and leaves no foot carbon foot print after it leaves a track. From the cars having zero carbon emissions to the utensils being bio degradable. It truly is the race series of the future.
The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series returns to action May 15-17 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
