After winning his first Winter X Slopestyle gold last January, 22-year-old Carlson set up a home base in Whistler with Poor Boyz Productions. Instead of spending the film season logging a series of short trips, as many skiers do, Carlson stayed put, minimized days lost to travel, and took advantage of every opportunity in Whistler. Carlson looks back on it as “not only my most fun season yet, but I think my most progressive season as a rider.” With his first Winter X gold, it’s reasonable to say that last season was Carlson’s most successful to date.     Oakley big mountain skier Andreas Fransson continues his world travels on a train from Chamonix to Marécottes backcoutry in Switzerland. He spends a night in a high elevation hut, has a good dinner and then continues his quest the next day. Heading out on foot and skis, Andreas fights the tough snow conditions and shows that ultimately smart decisions can turn a sour day into a safe and happy ending, stating “It was simply too dangerous to continue. It’s not the most fun thing to do, to turn around from a great ski. But no ski is worth dying for.”
