Mikaela Shiffrin hails from Vail, Colorado and is now a standout American alpine skier. She made a name for herself with a spectacular breakthrough in front of a home crowd, finishing eighth in just her second World Cup slalom start. Shiffrin began turning heads almost instantly when she finished in the top 15 of her first two NorAm Cup races. But the heads started spinning when she won a super combined in British Colombia two weeks later and transferred that momentum into a NorAm title and two World Cup starts as a first year J3.     Imagine you’re some young skier who frequents a smallish mountain resort, one with just one or two rails and a couple small jumps. Nothing that’s going to garner attention or headlines in any of the big magazines or be a potential venue for X Games. Then, one day, a handful of top twin-tip freeskiers show up and hang and shred with you and all your friends for the day – riding up the lifts together, hitting the rails together, having lunch and getting autographs. That exact scenario is coming to fruition at 50 resorts throughout North America as part of the Inspired Demo Tour. Henrik Harlaut, Phil Casabon and Paul Bergeron are among the crew of pros helping to spread the twin-tip vibe, and grow and strengthen the presence of the sport along the East Coast, in the Midwest and in Canada.

    It’s been much anticipated and young Mikaela Shiffrin delivered, just in time for the holidays. The budding Oakley alpine ski racing star secured her first ever Audi FIS Alpine World Cup victory this Thursday in Are, Sweden. The American phenom shot to the top of the podium in the slalom competition, becoming the third-youngest American to win a World Cup race.

    In the very first Final at Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colo., 17-year-old Kai Mahler set the standard by which the rest of his Oakley teammates would be measured. In the inaugural Freeski Big Air event, the high-flying Swissman threw down the gauntlet with a switch double misty double japan grab for a 97.0 and the first Dew Cup win of the five-day event.
