Talent. It comes in different shapes and sizes and varieties. Some of us can pen novels, others can figure out mathematic equations, some of us can run or swim or ski, better and faster than the rest. Brita Sigourney fits into that last group. These days she’s best known for her skiing prowess, but she was once an elite water polo player at a major university. Some of us are blessed more than the rest.

Unlike most professional skiers, Brita didn’t grow up surrounded by snow. She was born and raised on the California coast in Carmel, nearly five hours from the mountains of Lake Tahoe. Once she discovered her passion for skiing, thanks to two supportive parents, the distance was never an issue. As a youngster she dabbled in most every sport, including soccer, basketball, swimming and diving. Aside from skiing, her primary passion was water polo, a sport she would play in college at UC Davis. But the call to her skis and the mountains was always strong. By 14 she was competing in all five freestyle disciplines (moguls, aerials, big air, slopestyle and halfpipe) and spending more and more time on the snow.

While in college, following the creation of the US Freeskiing team, Brita chose to leave college and move to Park City to dedicate herself to achieving her skiing goals. She now trains and competes full-time, while also attending Westminster College to complete her degree.
