Petersen Photo Auction Benefits McConkey Memorial

Edge-blast

On Monday, April 20th, Powder magazine hosted a book signing and live photo auction party with the author of The Edge of Never, Bill Kerig, in Whistler during the World Ski and Snowboard Festival. Photographer Blake Jorgenson graciously donated his gallery in the Westin Hotel as the venue.

Auctioneer Mitchell Scott directed the capacity crowd, which included heavy hitters such as the Treadway brothers, Mike Douglas and Sean and Callum Pettit. Attendees bid on limited edition prints of Kye and Trevor Petersen from photographers including Scott Markewitz, Mark Gallup and Blake Jorgenson.

Kerig outbid Kye for the most popular print, an image of Trevor and Eric Pehota sitting on the pontoon of a helicopter, but gave it back to Kye in the end. All proceeds benefit the Shane McConkey Memorial.

The Edge of Never, a relatively new book and a requisite read for any skier, documents the story of big-mountain skiing by recounting the death of Kye’s father and legendary skier Trevor Petersen in Chamonix in 1996, and Kye’s subsequent visit and descent of the same Chamonix couloir that claimed his father’s life.
