This is the first time we have come to Ripley Creek, based out of Stewart, BC Canada. Over the years I have flown over this area on the spring pilgrimage to Alaska. On those flights from Seattle to AK all you see is snow covered peaks the whole way. Stewart is a quiet mining town that is situated near the end of the most southern tip of the Alaskan pan handle. We are here filming with Teton Gravity Research, flying with Last Frontier Heli. Our ski crew consists of Kye Petersen, Sammy Carlson, and Callum Pettit. It’s refreshing to be here, new terrain to play in, another part of the Coast Mountains.

Oakley’s Byron Wells had the highest consistency in amplitude, dropping a switch 720, alley oop flatspin 540 to back to back 900 combos to large 540. Qualifying first in the 33 man semi-final with a smooth and stylish run, Wells was overtaken in the finals by Telluride’s Gus Kenworthy and Walter Wood. According to Freeskier Magazine’s Shay Williams, “The doctor was in the house today and Byron showed the world he’s ready to put a hurting on the halfpipe community.”

A familiar sight for those that have been following freeskiing superpipe for quite some time. Oakley’s Simon Dumont has bested the finals field of 12 today to stand upon the last podium of the Winter Dew Tour. Under sunny skies, decent temperatures (compared to the last couple) and a trying stunt ditch, Dumont put it together to walk away the victor. Oakley’s Jossi Wells, while grabbing 5th is no reason to celebrate, he accumulated enough points to take the overall Superpipe Dew Cup, beating out Dumont by 5 points.
