The skiing/filming/photographing extravaganza that is the Jon Olsson Super Sessions is underway in Trysil, Norway before moving to Ã…re, Sweden for a big JOSS/Jon Olsson Invitational finale.

Nimbus Independent is pleased to bring you the second installment of their short film series titled, “En Route – Austria,” presented by K2 Skis. This episode follows the Nimbus Crew to Austria, where they start out skiing bottomless powder in Krippenstein, then pack the cars in search of sunshine, try on some Lederhosen, experience large steins of beer and then rally to the Arlberg region.

A mixture between big mountain, slopestyle and film/video competitions, the Free Sessions pitted teams of 3 athletes, a photographer and a cinematographer against one another in hopes of winning 20,000 euros and a chance at French fame. One of said teams was an Oakley sponsored team consisting of Byron “Lobster Face” Wells, Oscar “Fanta” Scherlin, Emanuel “Mossa” Hedvall, Christoffer “Crill” Kristiansson and Shay Williams.

This winter I was invited to compete on the Freeride World Tour. This tour has 4 competitions around the world, with the best Big Mountain skiers and snowboarders competing against each other for the World Title and a Nissan truck.

Nimbus Independent scored again! Following up on the success of “En Route – Japan,” we headed across the pond once more to bring you “En Route – Austria.” You roll the dice when traveling overseas, but we nailed it again with epic snow conditions and sunshine between the storms.

Travis’ life ended too soon, victim of a hit and run in Fernie, BC while crossing the street early Sunday morning.

We just wrapped up an epic trip to Last Frontier Heliskiing in northern British Columbia. The Oakley/TGR team mission was incredible. I think the final thoughts on the trip were, “Wow there is a lot of terrain here and it is insane. We need to get back asap.”

Last week, thirteen of worlds’ best freeskiers met in La Plagne, France for the first edition of the Red Bull Linecatcher, Freeski event that combines big mountain skiing with freestyle – bringing slopestyle tricks to the Becoin face in the French alps.

So I’m leaving Ã…re Sweden to go to Haines, Alaska for the second time in my life.

Powder Week originated in 2001 as an opportunity for Powder Magazine to try next year’s products and build relationships within the ski industry. Now, in it’s ninth year, Powder Week has grown into much more than a demo week. Powder Week is an industry summit and a celebration of the special community that only skiing could build.
