Nearly two-dozen skiers were on hand for the first-ever contest, but really, the Tanner Hall Invitational, held at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, was just a massive jam session between friends and fellow stylists – and it was just one of three celebrations of skiing going on across the country, which included a Chinese Downhill and the Dumont Cup.

This Saturday, style will be the focus at Sierra-at-Tahoe. Eleven-time X Games medalist Tanner Hall will be on hand with a couple dozen of the most stylish freeskiers in the world for the first-ever Tanner Hall Invitational. With the event less than 48 hours away, we decided it was a good time to catch up with Tanner to talk about his first season back from injury and to get some insights on his signature event.

Turski's 4-Peat and Carlson's "Real Ski' Win Highlight Great Week at Euro X for Oakley Skiers

A blizzard swept through Tignes, France on the first day of competition at Euro X Games, and what followed was a flurry of world-class competition. Three days of action in the Superpipe, on the Slopestyle course and on the Internet resulted in five medals for Oakley skiers, and 11 overall for Oakley athletes.

While there were plenty of great stories throughout the week, the achievement by Kaya Turski stood out from the rest. For the fourth consecutive year in Tignes, Turski was untouchable in Slopestyle, winning another Gold for the first four-peat in Euro X history. The win was a bit of redemption for Turski, who had to settle for Silver in Aspen in January behind young Norwegian skier Tiril Sjåstad Christiansen.

The courses are constructed and the athletes have arrived – Euro X Games 2013 is ready to commence. Among those heralded names making the trip to France will be Henrik Harlaut. The 21-year-old Swede is one of the newest stars in the sport. He arrives in Tignes riding the momentum of a two-medal performance in Aspen in January, which included a Gold Medal in Big Air by way of a first-ever Nose Butter Triple Cork 1620. He’ll be looking to add to his medal-haul when competition begins on Thursday.

Oakley Alpine Skiers Aksel Lund Svindal and Lindsey Vonn Secure World Cup Season Titles

Aksel Lund Svindal and Lindsey Vonn are no strangers to Audi FIS Alpine World Cup season titles, but 2012-2013 has been remarkable in its own right for these two. A few deciding, races late in the season, were to be held in Lezerheide, Switzerland on Wednesday, however the weather had other plans. After numerous delays, Wednesday’s scheduled events were canceled due to fog. While many would be disappointed with the result, this meant that both Svindal and Vonn would claim season titles, in multiple disciplines, based on final point standings. The Norwegian, Svindal claimed the downhill and Super G World Cup titles, bringing his career title count to an impressive nine. While Svindal’s story is remarkable in itself, it is Vonn’s season that is grabbing headlines across the globe. Just five short weeks after a devastating season-ending knee injury, Vonn still had enough season points to retain the overall downhill title. Vonn beat Slovenia’s Tina Maze by a single point.

Fortunately, this winter has been better than last – that’s a sentiment held worldwide. More snow, more frequently. Thank goodness. While he could have his pick of any destination worldwide, Sweden’s Jacob Wester has mostly stayed local this winter. The winter’s been so good to Europe, why not?

And despite all these years on skis, the 25-year-old is still finding ways to keep the sport and his time on the mountain fresh, exciting and challenging.

Simon Dumont's Path From a Devastating Injury to the Winter X Games Podium

Simon Dumont shouldn’t have been on the Superpipe podium last month in Aspen. Based on the condition of his wrists, he probably shouldn’t have had more than a commentator role at Winter X Games. Instead, there he stood on Day 2, a Bronze Medal around his neck and a left wrist wrapped in tape.

There are characteristics about elite athletes that set them apart from the rest of us, and talent is just part of it. It’s also intestinal fortitude and a determination and dedication to put everything on the line. Dumont wasn’t going to sit on the sidelines despite his badly injured left wrist; that’s why he’s him and we’re us.

Oakley Skiers Win Six Medals at Winter X 17; Harlaut Wins First Two WX Medals

The unpredictability of Winter X Games is part of the event’s appeal. New tricks, new names, upsets, surprises and general stimuli overload. The crowds, the tricks, the crashes, the variables, it all adds to the excitement. Those elements, along with the constant commitment to innovation at almost every level.

In the weeks and months leading up to Winter X in Aspen, Colo., Henrik Harlaut had stayed away from anything resembling a traditional training program. Instead, the 21-year-old Swede had been touring the East Coast, skiing icy slopes as part of the Inspired Demo Tour. Small mountains with the occasional rail and maybe a small jump or two. Nothing close to what’d he encounter in Big Air and Slopestyle with the eyes of the world watching.

While grizzled veteran and known legend of the sport, Lindsey Vonn inches her way closer to becoming the winningest women’s alpine ski racer in the history of the sport, a young, budding superstar is inching her way into the public eye as well. The legend of Lindsey Vonn continues during the 2013 season and the youngster who has been dubbed possibly “the next Lindsey Vonn” is making a name for herself in the sport at the same time.

Inspired Demo Tour and Oakley Team Up to Bring Twin-Tip Skiing to 50 North American Resorts

Imagine you’re some young skier who frequents a smallish mountain resort, one with just one or two rails and a couple small jumps. Nothing that’s going to garner attention or headlines in any of the big magazines or be a potential venue for X Games. Then, one day, a handful of top twin-tip freeskiers show up and hang and shred with you and all your friends for the day – riding up the lifts together, hitting the rails together, having lunch and getting autographs. That exact scenario is coming to fruition at 50 resorts throughout North America as part of the Inspired Demo Tour.

Henrik Harlaut, Phil Casabon and Paul Bergeron are among the crew of pros helping to spread the twin-tip vibe, and grow and strengthen the presence of the sport along the East Coast, in the Midwest and in Canada.
